ICTMT 5: Working Group "System Dynamics and Systems Thinking"

Chair: Günther Ossimitz, University of Klagenfurt, guenther.ossimitz@uni-klu.ac.at

The Fifth International Conference on Technology in Mathematics Teaching (ICTMT5) will be held at the University of Klagenfurt; Aug 6-9, 2000. Within the this conference a number of special groups and working groups are organized.

Programme

Planning state: May 19th, 2001
The Working Group "System Dynamics" / Systems Thinking" will be organized in close cooperation with the System Dynamics Austria Group (SDA). The timeslot on Tuesday afternoon (16:15 - 17:45) will be devoted to the theme System Dynamics / Systems Thinking; The Practitioners View. Three distinguished experts from the SDA will report about practical applications of SD/ST in their field of experience. At the Wednesday time-slot members of the SDA will give a practiacal introduction into causal loop diagramming, a powerful and yet easy-to-learn systems diagramming technique. The two sessions on Thursday will be devoted to System Dynamics modelling at secondary schools. In the Thursday morning session (10:30-11:15) Dr. Franz Schloeglhofer will report about his practical experiences with students learning SD modeling and simulation. The afternoon session (16:15-17:00) some practical examples about teaching SD in classrooms will be discussed.

Thu 9th, 16:15-17:00 Guenther Ossimitz or al. Practical Examples for Teaching System Dynamics in Mathematics Classes.

Contributions

Although the programme is rather filled now, it is still possible to place a presentation (preferably about some practical example of systems oriented modeling at math classes) at the Thursday afternoon time-slot. Do not hesistate to mention your interest to the chairman!
