morphy.zip Expanded! Paul
Morphy Games Collection - now with all +400 known games of the
19th century chess wizard annofritzed! In about half of the games Morphy offered his opponents some odds (a pawn, a Knight or even a rook).
In the Player dossier you can see some facts about Morphy's chess:
playing white
he opened exclusively with 1e4.
Not a single quick draw game (draw in less than 20 moves) has been recorded in his
whole career.
At the end of his career he played only games (with odds) against (his friend) Maurian.
Since Maurian won a considerable number of this odds games, he is the only player who has a positive score against Morphy.
Against N.N. Morphy scored 16/16.
Moreover you will find a bunch of Morphy's fabulous mating combinations,
like the famous 17 moves game that he won against the Duke Karl and Count Isouard in the Opera House of Paris in 1858.
Thanks to Chris Taylor for this great contribution! (16/Jan/2000)
najdorf.zip This Miguel Najdorfcollection with + 2300 games was annofritzed by José Mariano Acosta from Mar del Plata. Thanks for this great contribution! (12/Jan/2000)
spassky.zipBoris Spassky is
the last World Champion missing in my list of annofritzed games. His match against
Bobby Fischer in Reykjavik 1972 was probably the chess event with the highest public
attention ever! See +2600 games annotated with Fritz5 and Fritz6, including player dossier!

smyslov.zipVassily Smyslov was the first who threw Mikhail Botwinnik from the throne of

xie_jun.zip Chinese chesslady Xie Jun re-won the title of a FIDE- Woman World Champion in a match against Alisya Galliamova in late Summer 1999. Congratulations to her despite of the dubious circumstances of that match! Here is an annofritzed collection of her games! (27/Sep/1999)
khalifm.zipAlexander Khalifman games collection. With heartily congratulations for winning the title of a FIDE world champion at the Las Vegas KO championship. This format (with no seeded finalist like in first Fide KO-WC at Groningen/Lausanne 1997/1998) might be esteemed to be the hardest-to-win chess event of the 20th century. It took Khalifman six(!) games (including two blitz quickies!) to survive even the first "two games" round against Barua! Alexander
Khalifman is founder and director of the Grandmaster Chess School at St. Petersburg (Russia).
karpov.zipAnatoli Karpov: A collection of +3100 games of the Ex-FIDE-WC! Includes a player dossier! The games span from his earliest beginnings in 1960 and 1961 up to his appearance in Spring 2000. Here is a collection of Karpov-related chess books:

The Test of Time[Amazon.UK] is already a higliy praised rarity, containing games with Garry's own annotations. It was also published under ISBN 0080340431.
st.zipSaviely Tartakower was a top player and chess writer of the first half of the 20th century. Most famous is his classic 500 Master Games of Chess[Amazon.de]
, which is considered one of the greatest collections of annotated games in the history of chess writing. His autobiography My Best Games of Chess 1905-1954[Amazon.de]
is absolutely worth reading. (I own the german version Tartakowers Glanzpartien). His classical theory-work Die hypermoderne Schachpartie (in German) is out of print. Still available (in german) is Moderne Schachstrategie.
Tartakower was also a great gentleman:
see Hans Ree's article "Revenge and Forgiveness" with an episode showing Tartakower's character. See also Hans Kmoch's article "Grandmasters I have known", available at chess cafe.

oim.zipTõnu Õim (or Yim) became on 24.Feb. 1999 (that is also the Independence Day of his home-country Estonia) 15th CC-World Champion. He is the first person in chess history, who
became twice Correspondence Chess World Champion. Congratulations! Soon I will present the few
games (some CC, some OTB) of Õim I could find in my databases - of course annofritzed! Doing so would put a bit of shame on me: in a recent interview
in the german magazine Schach Õim said explicitely that he never owned a computer and would not know what
a computer might be good for him as a CC-player! --- At Chess-Mail you can find a web-page devoted to this little-known chess hero from the land of Paul Keres!
geller.zipEfim Geller was a world class player with a remarkable
record against chess world champions. He died in 1998. See Lev
Khariton's articles gellera.txt and gellerb.txt at Chess Cafe!

tournament! See him playing the Marshall attack (C89). Thanks to Ignacio
Derecho for this contribution! Annofritzed with Hiarcs 6.0 engine and 30
sec/move setting on a 400 MHz machine!

bronst.zipDavid Bronstein:
+2200 annofritzed games with congratulations to 75th birthday of the great
chess artist and gentleman ! Bronstein got in the
1951 World Championship
match against Botvinnik a 12-12 draw, leading after 22 of 24 games 11.5
- 10.5. Bronstein is not only one of most brilliant players of all time,
he is also a man of outstanding sportsmanship and character. He made many
chess innovations popular (rapid play, no adjournments, electronical chess
clocks, rules for proposing a draw...). Bronstein is also a brilliant chess
writer and (less known) an incredible successful chess teacher. (See also
Lev Kharitons
laudatio at Chess Cafe or another article of Khariton about Bronstein at Internetchess.com !)
Bronstein's autobiography The Sorcerer's Apprentice[Amazon.de]
(In German: Der Zauberlehrling), written together with Tom Furstenberg, gives a rich insight into his life and the sorroundings of his chess career. Even more famous is his tournament book of the Zuerich 1953 candidate tournament[Amazon.de]
(In German: Sternstunden des Schachs. Zürich 1953). These two books are among the five I appreciate most in my personal collection of chess books. Both offer a view behind the stages of world class chess; and Bronstein's respectful style is very sympathical to me.
Bronstein also wrote the outstanding teaching book The Modern Chess Self-Tutor[Amazon.de]
.
tal.zipMischa Tal: Games collection of the fabulous chess wizard from Riga. More than 2700 games = 1.2MB zip-File! Some books about Mikhail Tal:
The Life and
Games of Mikhail Tal[Amazon.de] is the greatest book about Tal I know. This book is one of my five favorite chess books on my shelf! Even more than Tal's witty annotations of 100 selected (and many additional) games I like his humorous style to describe various events of his career. See also a number of quite impressive reviews at Amazon.com or at Amazon.de. The games of this book are available in my collection lgtal.zip.
me.zipDr. Max
Euwe: Games collection (about 1300 games). The Dutch maths professor Euwe was the only one who won a WC match against Alekhine (1935). He was World Champion just for two years, then Alekhine regained the title. From 1970-1978 Euwe was a highly renown FIDE - President. Best known is Euwe until today as a chess writer. He has probably the broadest oevre of all chess-writers of the 20th century. Most of his books (both in german and english) are now out of print. His +700 pages classic
The middle game[Amazon.de]
(german: Das Mittelspiel) is one of my absolute favorite books. The english version of Euwe/Kramer's middlegame classic has been republished 1994 by Hays Publications; the german edition (Ed. Rattmann, ISBN 3-88086-55-6) is still available at some specialized chess-dealers (like http://www.niggemann.com), but no longer among the german "Verzeichnis lieferbarer Bücher" (books in print).
The +450 games/positions of Euwe/Kramer are available in my collection eukra.zip
Positions- und Kombinationsspiel im Schach: This book teached me 25 years ago the basics of chess strategiy and tactics. It was the best chessbook available for me at that time.
cs.zipCarl Schlechter: More than
770 Games as a tribute to the 125th birthday of the other "Co-World Champion"
of Vienna. Schlechter played 1910 in a World Championship
match against WC Em. Lasker 5 - 5, leading after 9 of 10 games 5 - 4. In
the last game he refused a simple draw (this seemed for him below the standard
of a coming WC) and finally lost that decisive game. Warren Goldmann's book Carl Schlechter! : Life & Times of the Austrian Chess Wizard is the best biography of Schlechter. See John Elburg's review for details.
va.zipVishy Anand: Game
collection of the top player of 1998 and Gary's Kasparov's challenger in 1999! His book My Best Games of Chess (in German Meine besten Schachpartien) is a highly appreciated game collection of arguably one of the best players of our days. David Norwood's older biography Vishy Anand : Chess Super-Talent seems to be out of print.
rn.zipRashid Nezhmetdinov: A fine
collection of the "secret hero"
(Richard Forster in
Chess Cafe) from Kazan, Tartar SSSR. Nezmehtdinov
is a not so well known chess wizard, who played some really fantastic games
(including 3 wins against Mischa Tal!). Some people say that his win with
black against Lev Polugajevsky at Sochi 1958 is the best chess game ever
played (see Sunil
Weeramantry's Chess Cafe column of Dec. 1998).
am.zipAlexander Morozevich: A
collection of 400+ games of 1998's shooting star !
pet.zipTigran Petrosian: More than
